Digital media is part of almost every moment in my day, whether I’m connecting with friends, studying for class, or building my brand Keep Going. As a business administration student and someone invested in entrepreneurship, fitness and mental health, I use different platforms throughout the day for different purposes.
Morning:
I usually start my day by checking the Garmin App and its daily overview. The app tracks different metrics that helps me plan the day ahead, from resting insights to stress levels and even training readiness. Morning time also means quick meditation and gratitude. I use an app called “MoonX” to express and track gratitude, the app also has a Tarot feature that I like to use from time to time; as far as meditation goes I keep it simple by going on Youtube and finding 3 to 5 minute meditations. I also like to check the stock market, I use the Investing.com app for that. I would then go to Gurushots and check my active competitions. Gurushots is an app that allows photographers to submit their photos and get voted on, I just recently had one of my photos presented at an exhibition in Chicago as well as their Instagram page with half a million followers. I would then go to TikTok, snapchat or instagram and scroll through different content.
Afternoon:
In the afternoon I’m usually at the gym. I would use the Garmin app once again to track my workouts as well as resting time in between sets, repetitions and weight. When Im training boxing or mma I get a different tracker on my arm and use a different app for that: Whoop. The Whoop app has similar data than the Garmin app, the main difference for me is the device itself. It’s very uncomfortable to wear boxing or mma gloves on top of my Garmin watch, the Whoop device can be placed in an arm sleeve that doesn’t get in the way of my gloves.
Evening:
In the evening I focus on school, Keep Going and my photography. I use Lightroom to edit my photos. Notion to keep my business notes. Shopify to run my stores. Canva to create images with quotes. CapCut, Lumafusion and the Insta 360 app for video editing. Gmail to check my emails. Smugmug for my photography catalog. I however, don’t use these apps every day, it always depends on my daily tasks. The apps I do use every day are the social media apps. Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Snapchat. I do a lot of scrolling throughout the day, it has become a habit. I am not a huge TV person, instead I love listening to music. I use the Apple Music app or YouTube for that.
Positive and Negative Reactions
My experience with digital media is mixed. All my social media accounts got hacked back in 2022 and it’s been difficult for me to post consistently knowing that I can lose it all in a matter of seconds. Social media can also be overwhelming, as a business owner Im aware that having a digital footprint is very important, since I haven’t been active on most of my social media accounts, I usually do the marketing in person by being one of the sponsors of “the Aries Fight Series” or better know as “AFS”. The Aries Fight Series is a combat sports promotion that focuses on organizing events and helping their athletes get to a higher competitive level. I have seen multiple fighters go from AFS to big platforms like the UFC or PFL. I go to their events to setup my booth where I display some of my supplements and apparel. I like to focus on showing love to people, motivating them to go after their dreams and sharing my story. Connecting with people in real life is important to me, you never know what people are going through and sometimes people need to feel vulnerable, to know that they’re not alone in their battles. I’m happy when Im able to connect with them in a much detailed and personal level and in exchange people often show support to this crazy and scary project, Keep Going.
The positive side of social media is the reach you can have. Digital Media bridges my message with places that I’m unable to visit in person, countries that I didn’t know existed. I need to get better at it and start by posting my story. People can be very judgmental and I believe that’s the main reason I haven’t done it. It’s also easy to find yourself comparing to others and allow people to point at the negatives more than the positives.
Digital Media and Marketing Today
One of the main things that stands out to me is how personalized marketing has become. The algorithm in the apps you use can tailor very specific content and advertising. The algorithm knows what you like or hate, that information is collected and used not only by brands or companies but also by other creators. For example, after watching MMA content on Instagram, I’ll start watching ads for boxing gloves. Brands are not just advertising, they’re creating communities that people can connect with.
People don’t just buy a product, they buy into a mission or message and I’ve learned that with KGO (Keep Going Official). I focus on inspiring and helping people throughout the things that I have personally practiced that have help my own mental health battles like mma and weightlifting.
Conclusion
Digital Media is part of my daily routine and it has helped me shape who I am today. Whether it is through fitness apps, social platforms or e-commerce. It has reminded me that technology when used responsibly can have a positive impact not only on my daily life but also the world.
